INDICATIONS
PROGENTA is a short-acting micronized progesterone indicated to assist pregnancy maintenance in females, blocking heat (estrus) manifestation and preventing embryo / fetal losses. It is also used to treat ovarian cysts and in cases of luteal deficiency. PROGENTA is specially recommended in equine embryo transfer programs, allowing non-cyclic or ovariectomized mares to be used as embryo recipients.
DOSAGE
Cattle
To raise post-insemination plasma progesterone concentrations, animals should be daily treated between days 3 and 7 after insemination with 1 ml of PROGENTA. This supplementation has been shown to
significantly increase the size of the conceptus on days 13 and 16, being especially efficient in herds with compromised fertility due to ovulation deficiency or in those showing low progesterone concentrations during the initial luteal phase.
When treated with exogenous progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH) concentrations are reduced in cows showing ovarian follicular cysts, which is followed by the development of a normal ovulatory follicle. To attain an ovulation after about a week of treatment, it is recommended to inject cows with follicular cysts for 5 consecutive days with 1 ml of PROGENTA. This protocol can be modified at the veterinarian's discretion.
Horses
To raise progesterone levels, suppress estrus and block ovulation, animals should be treated with PROGENTA either once daily with 1 ml or every other day with 2 ml. In embryo transfer programs, progesterone supplementation to recipients in diestrous has been shown to increase uterine tone and reduce endometrial edema, especially in mares showing luteal deficiency. Anovulatory / ovariectomized recipients should be maintained under progesterone treatment until they reach 120 days of pregnancy.
